Basic Needs

To achieve success and self-sufficiency an individual’s basic needs must be met. Home made meals are provided five nights a week. A washer and dryer is available for the students as well as a shower. We also provide referrals to other community programs that provide support to underserved youth and families.

Youth Mentoring is the foundation for all learning and development at Stepping Stones. Staff provide guidance and support to young people in need and are positive adult role models. Through strong adult leadership, compassion and consistency Stepping Stones staff have a large impact on the success and health of every youth at Stepping Stones.

Skill Development

.

Stepping Stones staff work with youth to develop important life skills that improve their personal, professional, and educational outcomes. Staff teach a variety of life skills and are dedicated to positive, healthy development for each unique individual with whom we work. Decision making, critical thinking, effective communication, self awareness, empathy, and interpersonal skills are just some of the many life skills taught.

Stepping Stones provides educational support for students. 80% of Stepping Stones youth are high school students and ensuring their success in the classroom is a top priority of Stepping Stones. We provide one-on-one tutoring at our drop-in center and encourage students to be engaged, purposeful, and invested in their education.

Experiential Learning

Stepping Stones staff assist youth in developing knowledge, skills, and values from direct experiences outside a traditional academic setting. Well-planned, supervised and assessed experiential learning programming can stimulate inquiry by promoting interdisciplinary learning, civic engagement, career development, cultural awareness, leadership and other professional and intellectual skills.

Counseling is an invaluable piece of Stepping Stones programming. We provide counseling services to youth that face mental health challenges and work with counseling  professionals to ensure youth are healthy, happy, and building better futures for themselves.

Outdoor Recreation

We are fortunate to live in the beautiful Roaring Fork Valley and have access to so many amazing outdoor recreational activities. We expose youth to a variety of outdoor recreational experiences which provide healthy alternatives to substance abuse and other unhealthy behaviors. We are always outside playing and encourage teens in the valley to stop by our drop-in center to sign up for monthly events and activities. Epic adventure awaits.

Stepping Stones is committed to preventing adolescent substance abuse. We empower young people to recognize and face the influences around them, including the pressures to abuse drugs and alcohol. We also work with youth to educate them on the short and long term effects of drug and alcohol use on the mind and body. Stepping Stones staff is trained in the nationally recognized Street Smart curriculum and utilizes evidence based practices to combat substance abuse.
